Talk about ultimate weirdness… but the group responsible for this year’s summer dance anthem has canceled their Lebanese concert, according to NRJ, the event organizers.
The cause of the cancellation?
“LMFAO have canceled their event in Lebanon due to threats they received from some fanatical extremist Christians who think their Extremism is the voice of Jesus.
These extremists think that the guy featured in the LMFAO music videos is dressed like Jesus.”
Here’s the broadcast NRJ released announcing the cancellation.
I had no idea such groups existed in Lebanon in the first place. Is anyone else familiar with extreme Christian Lebanese groups? If so, what exactly are their resources to get a death threat all the way to the band?
I’m sarcastically impressed.
NRJ’s statement continues with them wondering if, in the future, Lebanon won’t be able to host eccentric artists like Lady Gaga or Madonna.
And while I’m pretty sure neither would want to come for a concert here, they do have a point…
But I digress. I’m still pretty caught up with the idea of the extreme Christian group sending a threat to LMFAO and them buying it.
I really hope this turns out to be some joke.
lak the lebanese are so primitive and stupid. eno they send threats to lmfao bas khallo kel el artists taba3 dance in the summer yejo ? w jared leto, kif khallu yeje ? ma32ouuuuul ? w 3emil film 3an drugs kamennn ? bas hamdellaaa ma 3emeil shi khasso bi jesus aw bi mohammadddd.

Actually I don’t care for the band, but there was indeed a facebook page advocating boycotting them in Lebanon.
To be quite honest, Lebanese Christian groups need to sit the fudge* down.
At first they were offended by shoes, now LMFAO, what’s next, dare I ask?

The shoes thing I understand.
This, I do not.

So a video where they are disrespecting Jesus is ok but a flip flop which is clearly halloween themed is not?
talk about hypocrisy
LikeLike
The Flip flop, Halloween-themed or not, had Crosses on it, and they were pretty obvious.
The video had a man with long hair, wearing a robe. I still don’t know how every man with long hair, wearing a robe, can be considered to be as Jesus.
It’s not hypocrisy. It’s common sense.

Not true dude, you percieved te tombstones as representing christian crosses and these guys perceived the dude as jesus either both of you are wrong or both of you are right

The tombstones could have easily been perceived as such if they didn’t have Crosses too ๐

sorry didnt understand could you explain pls.

The tombstones on the flip-flop could have still been been seen as tombstones if they didn’t have Crosses on them. Tombstones in general do not need to have Crosses in them.
So yes, there is a difference between one stepping on Crosses while walking wearing cheap shoes and someone finding insult in some guy wearing a robe and having long hair.

I disagree Elie, i dont think that the flip-flops represent Christian symbols, post the pic of the flip flop on any American and European forun and I think they will agree that it is about halloween. and not insulting.

Well if you read my post about the flip-flop issue, I was personally more offended by what Now Lebanon wrote than the flip-flop itself, which wasn’t quite not-offensive as well.
I have American friends who thought it was offensive. It goes back to a person’s convictions.

Which is exactly what I was saying when I said “perceived”
you perceived the sandals as offensive (which is your choice regardless if it is right or wrong and Im not saying its wrong Im just saying it is as you said your conviction that it’s offensive) and these guys perceived the dude as offensive.
LikeLike
I didn’t perceive both as offensive. I perceived the Now Lebanon article as offensive, which led me to write my post. If I hadn’t read that post, I wouldn’t have commented on the incident to begin with.
And the fact of the matter is, the LMFAO video is full of hippies and post-apocalyptic people that look horrible so Jesus was not the first idea that crossed my mind when I saw the now known as “Jesus look-alike” in the video, even if it was for less than a second.

“The Flip-flop thing was righteous. This one, however, is just absurd”
So did you find it offensive or not the, flip flops?
as for you not recognizing the dancing man as “Jesus”, I said the others guys, the guys that are pissed off from the band did.

I found the response to it, by the people of the area, to be righteous ๐

I never cared about the band, and the flip flops case just flip flipped away, but starting to block the freedom of people, this is not acceptable.
Who said that every man wearing a long robe and had such hair and beard is Jesus? I could be Judas for example (the hated fellow among Christians) since they all looked like this back in the days.
I had a long beard and a priest’s robe in a play, and I played Jesus in another, What if I did something “not appropriate” in “THEIR’ eyes? Would they go after me and kill me?
I am against insulting religions, but again, against touching people’s freedom.

I really dont understand this group, u are defending a band that said and i quote ” lebanon not only a home for terrorists but a home for fanatics as well” ?????. They already considered us as terrorists then, and they were here to perform for a couple of thousands of young terrorists that were attending their event.
We were even gonna pay a ticket to watch some western guys making fun of us and call us “not only terrorists but fanatics as well” now ur case has turned on you guys, if lady gaga made fun of lebanon, wouldn’t be better to keep her out, mentioning lebanese in a wrong way in her song. Try defending that! If they call us not only terrorist we have the right to call them whatever we want.
Keep them out or someone might show them what a home of terrorists is capble of doing. now we need an apology from those unrespectful creatures

I usually don’t reply to naive people’s comments but this one was too stupid so I had to ๐
In gaga’s song ” Born This Way “, ” Lebanese ” is not used as a pejorative thing. She clearly states ” straight gay lesbian Transexual white black beige orient Lebanese “, she used it for a rhyme and she used it to say that everyone should be proud of who they are ( knowing that Lebanese ppl were being insulted back in 2011 – and still are – therefore she wanted to show respect to lebanese people but it looks like idiocy contaminated y’all )

The arab world will never develop with all this closed-mindedness.
IF you don’t like them, no one is imposing them on you, you can simply just not watch them. Just because you find them disrespectful then everyone who actually loves their music has to suffer? This is ridiculous. I actually bought my ticket online on the first day they started selling because I was too excited. THIS SUCKS.
