This story will make your blood boil.
NowLebanon broke the story of Nafi, a worker from Abidjan, who was visiting a “Brands for Less” store in Dekwane to buy gym clothes at a cheap price.
While at the shop, she was accused of being a thief, naturally because she was black, not Lebanese and not white. She was searched. They didn’t find anything on her. She tried to leave, and they searched her again, because you know strip searching her the first time was not enough and who knows, she might have stolen something while being eyed by every racist asshole in the store. So Nafi accused the workers of racism towards her. That was when the manager pushed her to the ground and beat her up until she started bleeding.
It didn’t end there. One of the employees there, another racist asshole with no ounce of humanity, shouted at her “leave now or I will cut you in half,” followed by insults that included calling her a “black prostitute.”
Ironically, the employee who called Nafi a prostitue was a woman. Then the woman tried to hit Nafi who, with her sister, tried to defend herself. The other employees joined in on the beating.
Nothing like a lynch mob to brighten up someone’s day.
When the manager suspected that someone might have called the police, he made sure to call them and tell them that she was *clearly* on drugs and drunk and that they tried to make a mess at his shop.
So he beat them up.

To say this is despicable is an understatement.
Here are a few words for these Brands for Less employees, those who beat up Nafi and those who stood there idly doing nothing, watching her privacy get invaded by two searches after being accused of being a thief, then not interfering as she was beaten up twice:
They are abominations. They are the filth of the filth of this country. They are a waste of oxygen. They are a waste of space. They are a waste of the energy I’m using in order to write this about them.
They are undeserving, racist, despicable, disgusting, inhumane. Calling them animals elevates their status. They are not animals. They are parasites whose entire existence is contingent upon feasting on those that are weakened by this country that doesn’t respect anyone and makes sure no one is respected.
They are those Lebanese that prosper in the fact that this country has no rules, has no respect for human rights, that this country has police that will believe your lies over another person’s bloody face just because of the color of her skin, that this country lets you exist.
I call on whoever reads this to boycott that “Brands For Less” store in Dekwane. Those employees shouldn’t just be fired; they should be jailed.
I’m terribly sorry that Nafi has to work in this country, that she has to be subjected to such levels of racism that are not allowed in 2015, that she was violated and will not have her rights defended by anyone with power.

There are almost 200’000 Lebanese that live in Cote D’Ivoire, and our population makes good money out of this poor woman’s country. I personally go to Abidjan more than often, and I sincerely hope that they will not consider treating me half a bad as we did this poor woman!

What is truly disgusting is that no one from the customers in the shop stepped in to say or do anything! But those same customers would jump up and do a mashkal (fight) if someone cursed their precious mother or their precious religious leader! Shame

Dear Sir / Madam,
First we would like to clarify that our organisation is totally against any form of racism or religious prejudice .
We firmly believe that human beings should be dealt with in accordance to their actions regardless of colour social status ,religion or sex or sexual preference.
With respect to the subject at hand ,it was raised to the court authorities and will be dealt with in accordance to the Law. With respect to the employees involved they were suspended from work for the time being and we are awaiting the judgement of the authorities . Also it is good to mention that one of them was hospitalised and has been out of reach for the last couple of days.
We would also like to add that if our employees are proven to have broken the law and the allegations are true then the harm that they have done to our reputation is beyond repair. And our company will prosecute them as well to the full extent of the law.
Please rest assured that we will not stop until this issue is resolved . This allegation stands for everything we despise and we will do every thing necessary to see justice served for the aggrieved parties.
We would like to highlight that our organisation has hundreds of employees across the region and that we employ a big mix of nationalities ,races and religions and if the allegations are true it would be a great injustice to label an organisation and its employees for the actions of a few individuals.

Don’t wonder if the Lebanese of Côte-d’Ivoire get the same treatment. Many TFEH on such racists. I am sure if a blond European had peed in the store they would have given him/her a super discount.

It would have been nice if Buy For Less group considered starting the post (see above) with a word of apology that such an incident took place in one of their facilities before they expound on “their reputation”. We, Us, Our…is great, but how about the person who is the reason for all these comments/post? Any word of apology?! It does not incriminate the store to say “we are sorry”, it just shows that BFL are not what the article suggest they are. BFL: you can do better!

The company’s CEO flew in yesterday evening and conducted the investigation.
After reviewing the security cameras and interviewing all the employees and witnesses available we reached the following conclusion. The Deputy Manager ‘s story was inconsistent and left us in doubt about his honesty.
Due to this the Deputy Manager was fired officially after being suspended.
All evidence will be handed over to the concerned legal authorities.
With respect to showing evidence we cannot do more that this statement as we will be hampering the legal process and taking the law into our own hands.
Any journalist knows how to verify these facts as part of their professional trade.
We would like to assure every one that justice will be served and we will not rest until this matter is settled fairly for the aggrieved party. We are socially responsible and believe in giving back to the society that we came out of.
We are against any form of racism, sexism, and religious prejudice .
We think that these ailments are at the core of the problems of our country.
