This is not the first time this happens and the resemblance between both girls’ cases is interesting.
Jessica Kahawaty has been crowned Miss Australia 2012, the second Lebanese after Nicole Ghazal. Both of them had participated in Miss Lebanon before attempting their luck at Miss Australia and both of them were deemed good enough to be runner ups only.
I guess this speaks more about the insurmountable amount of “wasta” present in the Miss Lebanon competition, regardless of what they try to portray, and where the best candidate doesn’t always win, let alone letting proper girls participate in the first place.
But hey, world peace is super important!
Jessica was a candidate at the 2012 Miss Lebanon pageant which saw Rahaf Abdallah win:
Is there really ‘wastas’ involved in Miss Lebanon competitions?

Of course. Did you expect otherwise?

Actually, I did expect otherwise.
It explains why the prettier girls did not win the last competition.

The prettier girls rarely win. I thought the Miss Lebanon wasta, as is wasta everywhere in Lebanon, was common knowledge by now :p

I think pageants are useless. But whoever wins is representing us abroad so I would want the best one to win and do the best job at miss universe or whatever those are things are called.

wasta in this case = selling her soul to the devil.

jessica was a candidate at the 2010* miss lebanon pageant if she was there when rahaf abdalla won…
elie fares is right whoever wins is representing us abroad, and its sad cause they rarely choose the right girl…
last year i was working at the miss lebanon gala diner and one of the members of the jury told the guy sitting next to her:
“leh bi 2oulo fi wasta dakhlak, mich sa7i7 hal 7ake”
i still think there’s waste though but it was weird…
