Carrie Underwood and Adele?

Adele

Imagine the possibilities…

Adele standing in one of her black dresses next to Carrie Underwood, each holding their microphone in a way that says: it’s just us and our music, giving out the best we can.

And then imagine those two voices fusing together on a song. Are you tearing up yet? You should be.

As my good friend Elia said yesterday, when two girls are singing a duet, it’s more of a sing off. Each one wants to top the other vocally. Now imagine a sing off between Carrie Underwood and Adele, this generation’s strongest vocalists by far. Yes, no one can even come close. Make that sing off friendly, playful and empowering and the result is something that, even while still in theory, is eargasm inducing.

And the fact of the matter is, it just might be a possibility that these two great voices will merge on Carrie’s fourth album. The clues are rather weak at this point but hints do exist.

They’ve both been complimenting each other a lot in the media lately with Carrie calling Adele one of the people she loves listening to and the same with Adele.

If anything, experience has taught us that whenever two artists start to “flirt” in the media, that means they’re cooking up something. In this case, one would hope this theory applies because there would be nothing better in the world than hearing those two vocal powerhouses hitting every single note on a brilliant song.

And if you think having them sing a duet is too greedy, I can settle for one of them writing a song while the other sings it. Any Adele – Carrie Underwood combination in today’s music climate is sure to deliver a song of epic proportions.

No, I’m not hyping this. It’s still a rumor more in the realms of theory. But hopefully someone out there listens and becomes some sort of catalyst in bringing these two together.

In the meantime, I leave you with live performances by each artist, just so you see the magnitude of talent we’re dealing with.

  1. This is like a dream come true. I just love these 2 amazing artists and they both have extremely excellent vocals. If only some producer can make this happen.

  2. i’m a huge fan of adele. i mean it took me 8 hours to get “rolling in the deep” off of repeat to even hear the rest of the cd! or “the same” goes for 19. that’s what i mean for huge fan. and carrie has some appeal to me, at least what hits my ears by her i usually like. so a fusion of these two ladies would be fantastic. and i agree with almost everything about this post, except… “Carrie Underwood and Adele, this generation’s strongest vocalists by far.” really!?! wow, i gotta disagree with you on that one. i mean, they are great vocalists and i love adele because she can sound EXACTLY like her cd in a live performance, which is a rare thing because a lot of people end up sounding terrible live and ruining how much i love a song that i fell in love with on cd, but i digress. there are way better vocalists out there for this generation that are underrated for various reasons, and i’m not talking my underground singer at my talent show. i mean main stream singers that are way better. anyway, great post and the combo would be great, but strongest vocalists of this generation… i’m gonna go with a nut uh.

    • you clearly have no idea what you are saying, Carrie and Adele can both sing flawless anywhere, be it live or in the studio. A Carrie Underwood and Adele duet would be beyond perfect for the both of them and beneficial. Not to mention the fan-base that would come over to each other, it would be HUUUUGE. This is amazing, I hope it happens!!!!

  3. hmmm… such as jill scott (raw and deep and such meaning, keys always on point, wow), ledisi (i’m new on her, but everything i’ve heard is amazing and her live performance at “black girls rock” with jill scott, kelly price, and marsha ambrosius for a cover of nina simone’s “four women” is chillingly good), christina aguilera (when she’s not doing that competing shrill shouting thing like you mentioned when people do duets together or overpowering people for attention), janelle monae (so different and “babopbyeya” is simply wow, even her live version at some college with a full orchestra is amazing), most trip-hop frontwomen (too many to name, but a lot of them have great vocals), tamia (absolute pure sound, unforced, wow, especially live), etc. i respect your opinion, but i think there are some serious contenders out there for vocalists that don’t get the recognition they deserve.

    • I’m not familiar with most of those. But I can safely say I prefer both Carrie and Adele over Christina and Marsha Ambriosus.
I’m not basing my words on some fan-craze. I have yet to see a live performance by Carrie and Adele that didn’t blow me away. Absolutely stunning.

  4. i wouldn’t put marsha in that category. she’s good, but not great. lol. but if we are talking vocalist and that means pure singers (at least that’s what i think) regardless of all those bells and whistles in the studio, then i think christina has to be added and is at least over people like adele and carrie for the notes she can hit and her voice quality. and we are talking our generation, cause if we went with “ever”, then this list would be explosive with people. cause the people i mentioned are not my momma’s singers or those before her and to me hers are wayyyyy better than our generation. lol.

    • I guess it’s a matter of taste. Christina is great but she does nothing for me and I wasn’t impressed with her most recent live performances.
Carrie and Adele, on the other hand, are constantly bringing it.
And yes, let’s keep the list on recent artists :p

  5. The reason why Christina does not reach Carrie’s heights (and never really has) is that Carrie’s voice is much more pure & emotional, delivering historic performances that seems to always transcend the song or those around her. Carrie has proven a few times she can do similar “Xtina” vocal runs (witness Before He Cheats on the Grammys’ a few years back, the version she did w/ those “Stomp”-like drummers – remember that end? Carrie’s gritty, soulful vocal runs blew everyone away and surprised a Xtina fans since Carrie is not usually thought to sing in that more R&B vibe. The truth is Xtina has not made a great (or even good) album in years – her last was an embarrassment to Xtina (and I own all her cds).. it proved she is floundering to find an identity as her peak popularity and quality music seems to have passed her by. Conversely, Carrie is the best vocalist in her generation, as he is that rare package of peerless vocals, incredible entertainer, beauty, grace and importantly a down-home charme/humility that very few superstars embody today. Remember, Beyonce is taking blood money for private performances, Winehouse od’d, Xtina is forced to be on The Voice to jumpstart her career, Celin performs in Vegas, and Mariah has not honestly sung amazingly in 15 years —- but Carrie Underwood continues to delivery knockout “event” performances every time she hits the stage… in fact, she just below the world away /w her incredible ACM “Thou Art” peformance that was lauded as possibly the greatest live vocal ever. Now, remember that Carrie is just 28 yrs old, but already a country icon. I do like Adele but she seems to be more a flavor of the month/ year to me.. I am not knocking her but only have enjoyed her stronge singles to date. Anyway, if Carrie and Adele go together it would be magic. Just look at how Carrie pushed Brad Paisley to sing his strongest, most emotional song ever (“Remind Me”, witness Randy Travis gushing over Carri’s cover of “I Told You So”, hear the best Loretta Lynn cover song last year, embrace Tony Bennett;s hand-picking of Carrie on his new duet cd.. there is a reason why today’s stars and past music legend’s all LOVE AND RESPECT Carrie – simply, she is the best in the business, and ultimatley untouchable. thanks gang!
