It seems the concept of beauty queen wannabes, models, actresses, etc… wanting to become singers is still selling to some overly wealthy producer like hotcakes.
How about having a former beauty queen contestent, an actress and a model all together in one package? I’m sure the producer who paid for Nancy Afiouny’s foray into the singing world must have thought he hit a gold mine. And what’s more, this actress/beauty queen/model was willing to take it off in her music video in a region where the word conservative would be considered a gross understatement for its sociological description.
In all honesty, I have no problem in watching a video like this, as long as the music behind the video is actually decent enough. Who would mind something like this actually. Don’t start the whole feminist “women stereotyping, sexual image using, etc…” talk. If the women don’t want it, it doesn’t happen. But with horrible pronunciation, obvious Lady Gaga antiques and an atrocious song to top it all off, Nancy Afiouny is just horrid.
I’m not criticizing the overly suggestive music video. In fact, I think this uptight region needs more liberal arts to let it loose a little. After all, the Salafis and the Ikhwans are scoring major wins in Egypt’s recent elections. The Islamists have already won in Tunisia and Morocco. God knows they need to let loose a bit.
But when it comes to Lady Gaga, her music videos have always had – whether you like the song or not – something to back them up musically. Her music videos and music are definitely over the board but they work for her. Lady Gaga however doesn’t work as a costume for Nancy Afiouny – not even Britney Spears or any other pop star/trash for that matter.
Perhaps miss Afiouny is giving the world a gift for St. Barbra’s day this weekend. That kitty costume would sure get lots of horny Islamist men to go meow before they start shouting: “BLASPHEMY.”
As for my ears, they’re still bleeding. The stray cat outside is still meowing in pain.
Proceed at your own risk:
well as you said we can’t compare this to any of lady gaga or britney’s work..
even if the music is cheap and trashy, even if her voice is trashy, at least they could give us a performance…
Lady Gaga, beyonce, or britney may be trashy to some, and their “too pop” music definitely deosn’t appeal to certain people, but the music videos they make or the performances… the break ground every time AND they always rock the stage with their choreography and dance moves…
this is just shameful, and what’s shameful is how many views it will reach on YouTube, and SHE WILL BE FAMOUS, but we ban Lady Gaga! Sure Why not!!

Exactly. Regardless of my opinion of Lady Gaga, I can’t say she can’t sing. But in this case, Nancy Afiouny is just horrible. Had she been a good singer, I wouldn’t be as appalled by this.

Now i am curious to see this cross-breed, I meant artist.
Lady Gaga might be trashy but she can carry a tune and Beyonce can definitely shake those hips.
The thing is that local artists try to imitate, they are not creative… and the end results is a disaster (except for one or two)

Precisely. If she had been good enough as a singer and creative enough as an artist, this wouldn’t be bad.

Oh god. The auto tune, the lyrics, the sultryness. Who allowed this into being?

This is like an Arab Heidi Montag on steroids. . . .
Definitely WTF worthy!
But again like every other overly-produced train wreck you can’t help but watch.
And you didn’t just call Britney pop-trash!!

I have no idea who Heidi Montag is. But if she’s anything like this, I don’t want to know.
And yeah, Britney – like her or not (and for the record, I can stand her way more than other pop artists – is not pop trash per se but isn’t breaking boundaries too.

Well, euh… This song is awful, now really, even lovers of the “too-pop” songs should be disgusted.
When i listen to Lady Gaga and Britney, i don’t like it, i simply don’t, but, i feel like its art, it looks like its a good song even though i hate it.
This one is awful and unbearable,
The video is just like any other pop video songs, nothing really noticeable, its not only britney and Lady gaga who can produce this stuff… Lebanese…euh… “singers” can do it too…
The fact Lebanese artists are copying “western” way of singing and making music doesn’t surprise me, nor anyone i guess, they’ve been copying Americans and Europeans since ages…

the entire crew cast, directors, faces, producers are from hollywood. maybe they are betting on the arab whore? i don’t see this going anywhere.
i wonder who wants her meow though, the guy she’s molesting doesn’t seem to give a fuck.
me neither.
and didn’t she really say you want to fuck me? that was my WTF moment

OMG people, you can never see pure talent? This is a diamond in the rough!
Of course im not serious. We have surely topped the trash music of the Egyptian Nagla, and Poussy Samir and Dana and many others. This one is just CRAP with some more CRAP mixed in a CRAPPY blender, served in a cup, digested, and then thrown up (OMG, i just disgusted myself)
Lots of technological advancements are in our hands now but we dont know how to use them properly. the quality of the image is nice, and we have good recording studios and even great music composers, and we still get this???
And please!!! Lady Gaga and Britney comparison? come on, the weakest girl from the choir of kids im training can sing better than her. This “creature” is just a pile of money going to waste.
Lady Gaga and Britney (im a lady gaga fan BTW and i dont like britney that much) at least have stories, concepts, lyrics, vocals, and the talent to make a pop hit and keep them coming.
This song will be the first and the last for this girl (i hope i wont be wrong on this issue)

I’m pretty sure it won’t be her last. Someone sees the “potential” in her.
And the Lady Gaga/Britney comparisons are there. She’s obviously trying to imitate them.

I don’t see anything wrong in that, except that her dance is awful..
As for lyrics, that’s the modern way of these days where all lyrics are just meaningless and awful.
I don’t think the music video of “I’m sexy and I know it” is by any chance something close to art, only nonsense showing how stupid people can go performing like clowns, yet nobody seemed to criticize it. The fact is you just like to be mean criticizing people, especially in the arab world. If you don’t like why do you have to watch it?

The song sucks. There are many meaningful songs out there. You might not be listening to them. But they do exist.
I couldn’t go through the “Sexy and I Know It” video because it is truly horrible. But how are LMFAO in any way related to Nancy Afiouny?

They’re not related but they’ve got almost 9 million fans of facebook!!!

I was just curious to read reviews on her song and video, but comments have been disabled on youtube… but I kinda get it now. Some people cannot help but be rude. Yes it’s too trashy, but that was the whole point. The music is fantastic though i keep playing the song over and over again. It’s a dance song! How many dance electro pop songs out there have decent lyrics? And yes her voice has been obviously auto-tuned and digitalized (that is if its her voice to begin with coz i have doubts). Anyway i think she is just the “image” that pulls the concept together and you shouldn’t belittle the talent of the composer for such a great track. If this song was released by a famous American singer say Rihanna Britney or whoever I could bet you anything that it would have been a massive success and you would all be saying how great the song is..We Lebanese only know how to complain and criticize. We constantly try to look for celebrities from the corners of the globe who might have some sort of Lebanese ancestry, and we never support the ones that are actually here…
The video is also superbly done, the choreography is not bad either. Anyway if you consider it as crap then at least we can export that crap to the Arab world instead of constantly importing similar crap from the west;)
Always remember that is is much harder to create something and far easier to just criticize.
There are a lot of negative things that can be said on this song/video/singer, but I just thought others have said more than enough so maybe someone had to show a bit of support:)

The whole “it’s easier to criticize than to create” is a double-edged sword. So anyone who has the “means” to “create” should be given some slack?
If you think yes, then I respectfully disagree.
First, the song is trashy and based on an interview I saw with her, she defends the song.
Second, the lyrics and beat are so uselessly bad that I have no idea how your tympanic membrane can sustain having to listen to it on repeat.
Third, we don’t criticize just to criticize. Had the song and her dancing been decent enough, I wouldnt have written this post in the way I did.
Fourth, I mentioned that the region needs to let loose a bit but there are ways to do it. This is not one of them.
Oh and I would have still bashed the hell out of the song had it been released by any other artist.
